Dayara Bugyal Trek Overview

You can experience the prime beauty of Dayara Bugyal in winter. During winter it presents an enchanting snow trekking experience, with views of snow-covered trails, meadows, and peaks. Dayara Bugyal is also visited during the spring and summer season. During this time, the snow melts and the meadows are lush green with wildflowers blooming around.

During the Dayara Bugyal trek, you can witness the panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. From the summit of the Dayara Bugyal trek, you can get a clear view of famous Himalayan peaks like Bandarpoonch, Srikanth, Jaonli, Gangotri Range, and Draupadi ka Danda 2.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Dehradun to Natin village

Altitude: Natin Village – 2,250 m/7,400 ft

Distance: 180 km | Duration: 7-8 hrs

Your journey to Dayara Bugyal will begin from Dehradun. Today we will drive from Dehradun to Natin village. We will pick you up at 06:00 am from Prince chowk (If you have opted for transportation from us). You are requested to be at the pickup point on time.

The distance from Dehradun to Natin village is approximately 180 kilometers and might take up to 7-8 hours of drive. Through the drive you can enjoy the change in scenery as you move closer to Uttarkashi.

On your way to Natin, you will get the first glimpse of Gangotri range and Shrikanth peak. Here we can pause for a small break if you wish to capture the splendid peaks.

Natin is a pleasant village, famous as the base camp for Dayara Bugyal trek. It is around 40 kilometers away from Uttarkashi, the largest town on the route. On your way to the base camp you can witness the snowy mountain ranges, slowly appearing and then gradually unfolding as you move closer to the base camp.

As you get closer to Natin, the views of mountain peaks get bigger, Shrikanth is one of the prominent peaks you can spot. The last prominent market on your way will be Uttarkashi and a smaller market at Bhatwari.

You will reach Natin by the afternoon, then you can freshen up and rest for a while. In the evening, you will have a quick introduction and briefing session with the trek leader and guide, and a schedule for the upcoming days will be shared with you.

At night you will be served a warm dinner, then you can rest for the following day. You will spend the night in a guest house and get a taste of a village homestay.

Day 2 – Natin to Gui

Altitude: 3000 m/ 9,800 ft

The trekking for Dayara Bugyal will begin from the Natin village. Today we will trek to Gui. The trekking distance is about 4-5 kilometers and would take around 4-5 hours to reach.

In the morning you will wake up to good views of the mountains, you can have breakfast. Then we will start our trekking for the day, we will start early in the morning. The trail today will begin with a walk through the jungle, and gradually climbing on the easy terrains.

There are silver and gold oak trees all around. The trails are well marked and beautiful to walk through. Also, they are easy and beginner friendly as they ascend gradually. Make sure you carry enough water, at least 2 liters, as there are no water sources on the way.

As you move closer to Gui campsite, the mountain views become more prominent as you gain altitude. The trail is mostly through the forested area that becomes denser as you trek towards Gui. It is mostly Maple and Oak trees and occasionally Rhododendrons, that are vibrant and bloom during the spring. During the winters, the trails and trees are almost covered with snow.

As you reach Gui, you can rest and then take a short walk around the campsite, that would help you acclimatize. Since the campsite is also picturesque, you can take pictures and enjoy the view around. Then at night enjoy the dinner and rest in tents.

Day 3 – Gui to Chilapada

Altitude (Chilpada): 3,300 m/ 10,500 ft

Today we will trek from Gui to Chilapada, the distance is about 3 kilometers, you can cover the distance in around 2-3 hours. For today 1 liter of water would be enough during the trek. In the morning you will have breakfast in the mountains then we will start our trekking for the day. Today’s trek is comparatively easy, the trail rises slowly as the forest clears, and you reach the next camping site Chilapada. It is a short trek. The trail follows out of the Gui campsite and the mountains on the other side that were hidden come closer into the view. During the winters there is snow on the trails, the Gui Thatch offers beautiful views of Srikanth Peak, and Gangotri I, II, and III peaks. You can also spot the Jaonli Peak and a few other peaks while trekking.

As you trek upwards, soak in the beauty of the Himalayas and the charm of the Himalayan forests.

When you reach the Chilapada campsite, you can rest for a while then a hot lunch will be served to you. The campsite is covered with forest. After lunch or evening tea you can stroll around the campsite and explore the nearby area. We would suggest you take these small walks as they help in acclimatization at high altitudes.

Then at night have dinner, enjoy the night sky, and then rest in your tents.

Day 4 – Chilapada To Dayara Top and Trek to Nayata

Nayata: 2,800 m/ 9,200 ft

Dayara Top – Nayata: 6 km | 3-4 hrs

Finally, the summit day is here. Today you will go all the way to the Dayara top and return to the Nayata campsite. The trek is through an easy to moderate trail. Carry enough water for the day.

In the morning you will have breakfast at the campsite and then start heading up to the summit. You will begin by walking through the forests, which gradually open to vast meadows. Then you will find yourself trudging into snowy meadows. Chilpada campsite is quite close to the Dayara Meadows, which gives you enough time to explore the meadows. As you enter the meadows, you can spot some Shepherd’s huts on the edge of the meadow. During summers, the Dayara meadows serve as pasturelands, and the shepherds shelter their cattle and livestock in these huts. While in winter they remain covered in snow, adding to the landscape’s beauty.

When walking through these meadows with views of Bandarpoonch and other peaks, you will not even know that you are finally closer to the top. The climb at the end is steep, but worth the physical strain because you will end up witnessing stunning snowy views. You can see the Dodital range, which is extremely beautiful. The mountains in backdrop with snowy meadows is truly a remarkable sight. On the way we will have a packed lunch.

Then we will head to the Nayata campsite. The Nayata campsite is a beautiful campsite, surrounded by Maple and Rhododendron trees, that remain covered in snow during winters. We will spend the night here. We will put up our tents, have dinner, and then rest for the next day.

Day 5 – Nayata to Natin village and drive to Dehradun

Altitude: 2,250 m/ 7,500 ft

Trek Distance: 5 km | 3 hours

Drive Distance: 180km | 7-8 hrs

Today, the journey among the meadows and mountains of Dayra Bugyal will come to an end. We will descend back to Natin. It is around 5 kilometers away. Since it is easier to descend, we would take around 3 hours to reach Natin.

In the morning wake up early, have breakfast and start descending back to Natin. From Nayata campsite we will follow the main trail to Dayra that we came to yesterday. The trail is covered with a dense forest, and the terrains are easier to descend, though it might be much cooler. After about an hour of trekking, you can see the Natin village as well as Raithal from a distance. Continue trekking on the trails until you reach the base. Throughout the trail, you can relive the fond moments from the ascent days. Natin is a lively village where children and villagers can be seen meandering around.

Further, from Natin, you will again continue your journey to Dehradun through a scenic drive. You will drive through the mountains, and valleys, and with the Bhagirathi River beside. This drive will mark an end to your memorable trip to Dayara Bugyal. From Dehradun you can continue with the return journey as you might have planned. Make sure to take back loads of adventure-filled memories.
